FAQ

John L. Dockery grave, North Wilkesboro NC

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the headstone look like new after it’s been cleaned?
Not normally, particularly with older stones in this part of the country. Black mold and other stains take time to come off since they are underneath the surface.

What areas do you service?
Wilkes County NC and some surrounding counties. Send us a message to confirm.

How does the cleaning work?
Loose raised material like lichen is first scraped off using a plastic tool. Then the biocidal cleaner is applied and allowed to work for 15 minutes. Next, agitation with a soft bristle brush removes the remainder of the surface growth. After rinsing with plain water, another application of cleaner is applied and allowed to remain on the surface. In the coming weeks and months, the stone will continue to improve as the growth and stains underneath the surface are removed.

Will you repair or re-set gravestones?
Not at this time, however that may change in the future.

Do you work year-round?
Although here in the South we can sometimes be blessed with nice winter weather, cold temperatures negatively affect the cleaning process. The manufacturer of the biological solution specifies that it should be used in warmer temps and once it gets into the 40’s, it can’t be used.
